For many of you around the city, other than rooting on the Buckeyes (especially this week!), the fall means it’s race season. The Columbus Marathon is a few weeks away, and there are enough warm up races, trail runs, and unique “fun runs” to keep your calendar full of ways to keep up with your need for speed! If you need some ideas, check out our blog on some of those races.
The end of summer is the official start of race season, and as you begin to figure out which race you’ll PR in this year, you need to make sure you get the right gear to not only look good, but to be safe and prepared for the upcoming season.
Road Runner Sports is one of the best stores focused on runners in the city. But to be totally honest, when we were planning the 5k and expo, we didn't even consider reaching out to them because we didn't think they did much locally. We were very, very wrong! Road Runner supports many local races and searches for ways to connect with the local running community.
They have a state of the art system called “The Shoe Dog” that will evaluate your stride, arches, and natural impact when you run. An expert will evaluate the results from the Shoe Dog and help you pick out the perfect pair of shoes. Personally, I always thought that I had flat arches, so I always wore shoes that were made for flat-footed runners. After evaluation, I learned that I actually had high arches that “collapsed” when I ran, and a high arching shoe was a better fit for me. I changed shoes and have already noticed a better overall feeling in my feet, knees, and IT Bands when I run.
Road Runner also has the latest gear you’d expect from a running store. They carry everything from hydration packs to trail shoes, and there is always plenty of options and sizes in the sale section. If you’ve never been, we’d highly encourage you to join their loyalty program, which basically pays for itself on the first purchase and you’ll get future discounts on everything in the store. If there is something you want and Road Runner doesn’t have it, they’re happy to order it to the store at no additional charge to you, which is always better than ordering from Amazon and “hoping” for the right fit.
Whether you’re trying to become a better runner, or you just want to un-retire and get back into it this season, getting a proper fit from someone who knows what they’re talking about is probably the single best thing you can do for yourself. Road Runner is an easy drive from anywhere in the city, and 30 minutes in the store might be just what you need to have your best race season yet!
