One of the worst things for anyone who is planning an outdoor workout is relying on the weather to cooperate, and when it doesn’t, you rarely have a good backup plan and end up just couching it (possibly with a glass of wine). Such was the case this past week when our first Sweat Sesh fell on the same day as about four inches of rain in Columbus. Luckily, CycleBar Powell was there to bail us out of a tough spot.
We received a message early that day inviting anyone who was planning on attending the Sweat Sesh to go up for a free ride at CycleBar Powell. It couldn’t have turned out any better, and I think everyone who was able to make it up not only got treated to a great workout, but got a free glass of wine thanks to CycleBar’s “Wine-down Wednesday.”
For those who have never been to CycleBar, it’s kind of a cross between indoor cycling and a night club. The equipment at CycleBar is second to none, as each bike is equipped with a digital readout that shows you your RPM, power output, bike resistance, and time/miles ridden. Within the workout, the instructor has the ability to put everyone in the class’ stats up on a big digital screen, set up competitions between sides of the room, as well as control the lighting for whatever kind of effect they’re trying to set in the otherwise, very dark room.
We were lucky enough to have Lacey instruct our workout, and she didn’t disappoint. For us, a good cycle class begins with good energy from the instructor. Lacey kept the energy level up the whole time by engaging with the class, calling out for feedback, and even dancing a bit when a new song would come on. By the time we finished with the 50 minute class, our class of 21 burned over 10,000 calories. Each rider also got a personalized email with their own specific stats as monitored by each bike.
CycleBar is great for anyone new to indoor cycling or someone who has done it before. The bikes are world class and there is enough distraction to allow you to forget that you’re actually getting a really good workout. Check out CycleBar Powell for great promotions they’re running, and find out how you can try it out for free.
